AUDIENCE EFFECTS THEORY

 1) Passive is the view that audiences passively take in information from the media and that these messages have the same effect on everyone.

2) Active is the more modern and generally accepted view that the audiences interact with and make conscious choices regarding the media they consume.

3) Hypodermic Needle Theory is the suggestion that audiences are always passive and therefore take the intended message from the producer as if it was injected into their minds. This assumes no individual difference in audience members.

4) Information/ surveillance: The Times newspaper

>It tells audiences important information about politics, the world and more.

Personal Identity: Culture

>The audience can relate to the film or anything they see

Diversion/ Entertainment: Reality TV shows

>The audience will feel at ease from what they are watching because they get away with it

Relationships: Dating

>The audience will feel loved, and while other couples find their relationships easy going, in media they'd feel like it's one in a million.

5) The Blue Planet shared information/ surveillance by showing that the ocean or by that, the underwater sea creatures are not as creepy as they look, as they glide underwater, and as they swim as elegant as a ballerina. They can show various of things to humans. The Blue Planet also shared different types of identity from the sea creatures, they showed the audience how they live differently. They shared diversion/ entertainment, by making the film as peaceful as they can so that the audience feel relaxed and safe. They shared us relationships, by showing the audience that just because the sea creatures looks different from each other they can still be friends, they don't fight against each other, and showed the audience that they are not enemies. The Blue Planet made Visceral Pleasure because even though some of them don't find each other as enemies there are still some creatures who preys for other sea creature. The Blue Planet also used Vicarious Pleasures as the sea creatures lives peacefully underwater, these makes the audience feel like they would want to live underwater as the world above is full of chaos. The Blue Planet also used Voyeuristic Pleasure to show how sensitive sea creatures are when they sea humans, that's why they hid a camera to show how they live secretively.

Extension:

The director used information/ surveillance by showing that there are still some cultures out there who are forced to be married and not everything you expect is the outcome. They used identity by making a film about arranged marriage as they know that it is not good. They used diversion/ entertainment by using a lot of drama within the film, the director know that if there's a drama it would go popular, the director also made the film about lesbian as almost all the other relationships are boy and girl, so they made it different from the usual. They used relationships by making the mother not want to hurt her daughter, because she knows that if she tells her daughter she wouldn't believe in her. The director used visceral pleasure by including a thrill that the mother knows what's going on already, and that the guy has wife and kids. They used vicarious pleasure, when the mother didn't get angry because she wasn't responsible, other kids would want a mother like that, when you're already hurt and your mother would yell at you for not doing the right thing. They also used Voyeuristic pleasure, when the girl thinks that everything was going so well, but then suddenly everything just flipped, and becomes to the the opposite thing she doesn't want to happen.

Extension 2:

Some agree because peoples have different preferences about everything. This is because some people really want what they see in social media so they start doing it too, and some rely on social media so they think it's fine to do so. Others also agree, celebrities, if the person they praise a lot do something they think is cool, they would copy them. Some disagree because they know what's good for them. This is because some people have more imagination than others, they'll overthink of what's going to be the bad effect of it and the good effect of it. Others also disagree because they have their own lives. This is because they know what's their plan for life is, they'll consider what's best for themselves.
